Little Things, Lent Me Thy Strength, James Brown

Little Things, Lent Me Thy Strength

Little things, lent me thy strength.

Let me be as a pebble on the roadside

when the fine horses and carriages clatter by.

Amid the skillful manoeuvrings

of the fleet-of-foot, grant me firm stance.

When the hour for the grand ball finally arrives,

find me at home, lost to romance.

At the gallery of bright ideas,

have me turfed out for good reason.

And when the grand prizes are handed out

to the exemplary and the deserving,

place me near the gorg.

But for the quiet hands of Mlle de Salle,

allow my gratitude to sweeten the air

above all others.

Small things, I would have it this way.

- James Brown
